Clamp (1995)

’Clamp’ by Franz West is an object based installation with an interactive as well as a site-related character. The spectator is invited to take a seat in the environment that is based on the artist’s former studio floor to experience the artworks that are placed in and around the Clamp, the same way Franz West himself must have seen them come to live. The objects are made out of painted plaster and papier-mâché colourfully painted, benches and tables are made in the same sculptural style. The visitor can make himself at home in this ’environmental collage’, sit down and make a telephone call for instance: the walls are covered with pages from the local phonebook.
