Maastricht Seminar/workshop Theory and Semantics
(11 & 12 May 2006)

The forth project seminar/workshop took place in Maastricht and was kindly hosted by the Bonnefantenmuseum. Organised by the Foundation for the Conservation of Contemporary Art (SBMK) in collaboration with The Netherlands Institute for Cultural Heritage (ICN) the event focused on the research theme Theory & semantics.

Day one was an open seminar that included lectures on authorship and installations, experience and conceptualisation of installations, preservation of time-based media works, conservation theory applied to installation art and the experiences of artist Suchan Kinoshita with the museum world. Also the DOCAM project (on documentation of installation art) was introduced. The day ended with an interesting panel discussion between Suchan Kinoshita, conservators, curators and museum director Alexander van Grevenstein of the Bonnefantenmuseum.

Day two was a workshop for project participants in which discussions were held on terminology. Three case studies were presented by Spanish participants and a lecture given on Video documentation of installations.
