4. Slide Duplication (August 2006)
creator(s) Barbara Sommermeyer (conservator); Heike Koenitz (conservation student)

In contemporary art slides are often used as photographic material. However, during projection slides fade. High quality duplicates are necessary in order to protect and conserve the originals from fading. The aim of this investigation is to determine the most suitable method for the duplication of slides.
First, analogue and actual digital duplication technologies for slides are introduced and compared using test slides with different characteristics. Special attention is paid to qualifying criteria. Finally, alternative future presentation forms of slide shows are discussed and standards for storage and documentation will be given.
