5. Dismantling and storage (April 2007)

Dismantling of Hirschhorn's environment 'Doppelgarage' was carried out over eleven days in February 2006 – preparations had begun almost immediately after setting-up in March 2005. A certain amount of research was required to identify the right kind of packing materials. Storage space was in such short supply that it was necessary to use computer-aided design software to reduce storage volumes to a minimum. A fine-tuned schedule was drawn up for each of the days devoted to dismantling. The schedule detailed every step from the removal of concealed security devices attached to the smaller objects to the stacking of crates in storage.
