Artist interview (April 2007)
creator(s) Maike Grün (conservator)
contributor(s) Thomas Hirschhorn (artist); Christina Spaarschuh (conservator)

Questions about materials and conservation were emailed to Thomas Hirschhorn in the form of a three-part questionnaire (in Word format). This he filled out and returned. The first part of the questionnaire contained questions relating to his working environment, with an emphasis on his working methods and studio organization: how much of the work did he carry out in person and how much did he delegate to his assistants? How did he choose his materials and where did he obtain them?

The second part focused on his attitude to geodetic measurement of 'Doppelgarage' commissioned by the Doerner Institut and what role the resulting plans might play in any future setting-up of the environment. Finally, he was asked about his thinking on such issues as care and management of 'Doppelgarage' in the museum context and the effects of the ageing process on the objects in the environment.
