Document Manager Read Me. Version 1.0. Released 15 July 2007 Thank you for your interest in Document Manager. I hope that you will benefit from it's use. All the necessary files to 'install' and use Document Manager are contained in the accompanying ZIP file Two basic types of installations are possible: Server based where access is for multiple users Local where access is for the workstation user To install Document Manager and use it, 1: Unzip the DocMan.zip file to a folder either on a server (to which you are connected) or on your local hard drive 2: Navigate to that folder 3: ALWAYS create a shortcut for the file 'DocMan.hta' (this is the only executable) 4: Copy that shortcut (*.lnk file) to your desktop and/or any other menu in which you wish to place it 5: Get a small high quality logo for your institution in JPG format, name it InstitutionLogo.jpg and copy it to the folder "/scripts/folders" replacing the file that already exists there (which is the logo for the Museo Reina Sofia) The logo has a space of 50 pixels vertically max. 6: The templates that are supplied with the application have a placeholder logo in their headers. Likewise replace all of these graphics with you official institutional logo Installation Done! ALWAYS Execute the shortcut and Document Manager will start (if executing DocMan.hta directly particularly on server mapped drives the application may give 'No database connection' errors [depends on versions and system configuration]) Inside the interface is access to text guides (on screen) and video tutorial Last Minute • Sometimes the menus are a little bit stupid and don't disappear. Move the mouse over them and then onto another node, they should disappear then • From Vista to a networked drive the application may not connect to the database. The problem is the advanced security settings of Internet Explorer. For Vista to access the database and therefore the application to function correctly is to set the security settings for Intranet to LOW. It will complain saying that there's no security but there are no other options for it to work (that I've found) Take Note 1. If having installed Document Manager on a server drive, ensure that future sessions have the same drive letter mapped to the server folder (the shortcut(s) won't work) 2. Multiple users may use the Document Manager at the same time 3. If multiple users are to be given access then repeat step 4 on each workstation and take note of Note 1 4. If in the future you wish to change where Document Manager is located simply copy every file in the folder where it was originally located to a new location and update the shortcuts to reflect the new location. If multiple users have access then update their shortcuts too 5. Multiple installations in different locations can be made and each used for different purposes 6. The speed of the application is determined by various factors. Most significantly is the local workstation, it does most of the work in the networked scenario), network load and speed, server response times and if large images or videos are used then it becomes noticeable. Modern P5, Xeon, Dual Core processors with equally modern workstations have no problems (or fewer). Old systems do (a lot). 7. Email craiggordon@hotmail.com with feedback or requests 8. Development has terminated after the official release as this application was conceived and developed under the Inside Installations project and official release coincides with the official end of that project.
